The Cīrulīši Nature Trails will introduce you to the evolution of the beautiful Gauja River valley from Ice age to nowadays! The Cīrulīši nature trails at Cēsis reveal the history of the Gauja River and its surrounding nature. What are the origins of the river? What kind of plants used to grow here? Who were the first inhabitants? Satisfy your curiosity on a leisurely stroll through this fabled place admired by people from all around the world
The area has three comfortable, easy accessible routes – 2,7 km, 3,5 km abd 6,2km long. During the walk, fascinating natural objects can be seen: the impressive Cīrulīšu cliffs also called Spoguļu (Mirror) Cliffs beautifully reflect in the water of the oxbow lake. Dzidravots (Clear spring) is place where to cool off (water is not for drinking). Legend of Līgavas (Bride) cave legend will again verify the power of love, but Cīrulīšu cave is also called the abyss.
The beginning of the trails is located near the campsite “Žagarkalns” and the attendance is free of charge. Camping is a great place to walk the final picnic, there is also a WC, tourist information centre and a boat rental. The trail is suitable for Nordic walkers and cyclists.
The Gaujaslīči Section of the Cīrulīši Nature Trails, winding through the small streets and paths along the River Gauja, will allow you to get acquainted with the natural heritage, habitats, plant species included in the Red Book of Latvia (endangered species), wooden architecture and cultural landscape. Enjoy the splendour of all four seasons on the banks of the River Gauja!
